Elegy To Life

Dead people
Strangers crossing streets
Family sharing paths, glanced
In corridors, rooms — people
In houses no different
From offices, tea room
Some morgue
Some walk

Dead walking, sitting
Familiar, unfamiliar
Each word, already spoken
Heard — yesterday
Same gesture, same week
Same event
Next year
Repeat

Seeing — not
Looking
Not touching — sensing
Not listening
Words uttered, hollowed
Of emotion
Steps taken
Emptied of passion

Some dreams
Of nights, some thoughts
Of days
Around death
In grief

Dead eyes
Light up
A tear drop
A howl

Gives way
