Memento Mori
How can one possibly, ever —
Remember
What cannot happen
Has not happened
To one
One can fantasise, write about, romanticise
Infer, wish, deduce or believe it happening
To one, but how can one
Remember
What will never happen
To one
One can only remember
What has already happened
To one, not what has not
Not what happened
To another
Even if one tried to remember
By what intuitive, emotional
Conceptual, or imaginative means would
One enact
Remembrance —
Even if one did manage, somehow
To induce
In one
Some artificial memory —
What could, or would
One find
In that remembrance, if not that
The one
Remembering, attempting to remember is
In the act of remembering that which
Has not, cannot, will not happen
To one
