Ordinary Speech

Ordinary speech
Between humans — is almost always —
Superficial

Where the content of speech
Is directed upon
Toward
The container —
That the other
Seems to be

Where the content itself
Are stray fragmentations
Undigested soup
Of assumptions

Ordinary speech
Not only does not happen
From the core
Of one
To the core
Of another

It also does not happen
Through content
Words, self-chosen
Self-examined

Throwing paintballs
Upon one another
Holding — matching colours —
As identities
Ordinary speech
Assumes itself to be — poses as —
Communication
Expression
Sharing — of oneself —
With another

The gift, the tool, the weapon
Handed at birth — indiscriminately, to all —
Never truly
Looked at
Turned around
Seen
For what it is

Upon what it rests
What it does
Can never do —
